World Beer Cup

World Beer Cup was held in Denver, CO on Friday, April 11, 2014 in conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference & Brew Expo America. 94 categories of beer from around the world were judged.
The Wisconsin Brewers Guild had 3 members who won awards!
Category 16: Gluten-Free Beer, 17 entries
Bronze Medal: Shakparo, Sprecher Brewing Co., Glendale, WI
Category 22: Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout, 72 entries
Gold Medal: Sixteen, Central Waters Brewing Co., Amherst, WI
Category 38: German-Style Schwarzbier, 47 entries
Gold Medal: Black Bavarian, Sprecher Brewing Co., Glendale, WI
Category 81: Irish-Style Red Ale, 46 entries
Silver Medal: McLovin, Vintage Brewing Co., Madison, WI
Congratulations to all of them! Hope you find time to visit their breweries and sample their award-winning beer.

When a new craft beer is developed, the focus is usually on flavor. But in the case of #005 Big Sweet Life, philosophy played an equally vital role. With spring finally in the air after a long cold winter, WBC Brewmaster Kirby Nelson had a taste for a Maibock. For inspiration, he drew upon his decades of brewing expertise, the finest quality ingredients — and his own take on the meaning of life...
