Wednesday, May 20, 2015

GREEN BAY - May 20, 2015 - Badger State Brewing Co. has announced a partnership with Arcadia Power to become Green Bay’s first 100 percent clean wind-power brewery. The electricity used will be sourced from wind farms in the Midwest, directly helping to maintain and grow sustainable energy programs.

The program is the first step in plans that immediately reduces the brewery’s carbon footprint and invests in clean energy for the future.

“The brewery business plan had renewable energy as a focal point from the start and we are proud to take the lead in making our brewery clean power based,” said Andrew Fabry, President - Badger State Brewing Co. “Wisconsin is home to immense natural beauty from our bountiful lakes to the fields we farm. It is our goal to sustain that landscape so that generations to come can enjoy it alongside enjoying our beers.”

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Capital Brewery Maibock Wins Platinum Medal, Capital Blonde Dopplebock Wins Gold, and Capital Dark Voyage IPA Wins Silver at the 2015 World Beer Championship

Capital Brewery’s Maibock has recently been awarded a PLATINUM medal at the 2015 World Beer Championships, receiving a score of 96! Capital Blonde Dopplebock received a Gold medal with a score of 95, and Dark Voyage IPA received a Silver medal.

Brewmaster Ashley Kinart reacted by saying, “It’s so great to see not only that the traditional
styles that we’ve been brewing for years continue to receive praise and acknowledgment, but that our
newest brands with a completely different flavor profile are gaining in recognition as well. Just look at
the mix of these three brands - a Seasonal, a Limited Release, and an annual IPA - we are really
showing that our diverse portfolio of styles has excellence across the board!

Capital Maibock is our dangerously smooth spring seasonal; its 6.2% ABV hides nicely behind its rich, malty backbone. Available February through May every year in 12 ounce bottles or cans, and on draft.

Blonde Dopplebock is a malt monster traditionally released at Capital Brewery Bockfest to usher out the last of the chilly weather, weighing in at 7.8% alcohol by volume (ABV), and is still available in 12 ounce bottles and on draft.

The Dark Voyage IPA is the third in a series of IPA’s brewed by Capital. With 80 IBUs and 6.5% ABV, this black IPA is available year-round to showcase the unique synergy created by dark roasted malts and bright piney hops. Try it in 12 ounce bottles, can or on draft.

Point Brewery On A Winning Streak

Point craft beers, Ciderboys hard ciders score multiple competition awards

STEVENS POINT, WIS. – Stevens Point Brewery is going to need a new trophy case.

That’s because three well-respected international beer competitions bestowed more than a dozen awards and medals on the central Wisconsin craft brewer and cider maker since the first of the year, adding to the dozens already in the brewery’s collection.

The latest honors include Double Gold and Best of Show for Ciderboys First Press Traditional Hard Cider at the Denver International Beer Competition, a Gold Medal for Point Special Lager in the Los Angeles International Beer Competition, and Wisconsin Brewery of the Year and Wisconsin Cider Producers of the Year honors from the New York International Beer Competition.

“Awards recognizing the quality of Point’s handcrafted specialty beers and unique hard ciders are always welcome, and participating in prestigious beer competitions like the New York, Denver and Los Angeles events is a great way to support the craft brewing industry,” said Joe Martino, Point Brewery Operating Partner.

It all started in February at the New York International Beer Competition in Midtown Manhattan, unique among beer competitions because it’s judged by New York restaurant and liquor store owners, supermarket beer buyers and beer distributors.

Ciderboys First Press Traditional Hard Cider earned a Silver Award in the Common Cider category while Strawberry Magic, a year-round cider that blends fresh strawberries with apple cider, received a Silver in the Fruit Cider category.

Point Onyx Black Ale received a Bronze Award for American-style Brown Ales and Point Cascade Pale Ale received a Bronze Award for American-style Pale Ale. The New York judges also named Stevens Point Brewery the Wisconsin Brewery of the Year and selected Ciderboys as Wisconsin’s Cider Producer of the Year.

Point Special Lager, a full-bodied pilsner-style beer, added a Gold Medal to its medal collection by winning the American-style Lager, Light Lager and Premium Lager category at the Los Angeles International Beer Competition.

Ciderboys Peach County, a seasonal fruitful pairing of crisp apple cider with juicy peach, won the Silver Medal in the Standard Cider and Perry category. Smiley Blue Pils, Point’s new Czech-style pilsner, received the Bronze in the American and International-style Pilsner segment. Whole Hog Scotch Ale was recognized with an honorable mention in the Scottish-style Ale category.  Held April 18-19 at the Los Angeles County Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., the prestigious competition judged more than 1,000 beers competing in 89 categories.

At the 6th Annual Denver International Beer Competition, also held April 18-19, Ciderboys First Press Traditional Hard Cider earned one of 12 Double Gold awards and the Silver Best of Show. Whole Hog Scotch Ale grabbed the Gold Medal for the Export Irish Red Ale category while Whole Hog Russian Imperial Stout got the Silver for Russian Imperial Stouts. Point Cascade Pale Ale won the Silver Medal for American-style Pale Ales and Point Beyond the Pale IPA earned the Bronze for American-style IPAs. The 2015 Denver event attracted 300 entries from brewers in more than 22 states and six countries.
